Martin Brandt has been the Chief Editor of the trade magazine “MOTORIST – Technik für Garten und Landschaft” (Technology for the garden and landscape) since May 2018. The magazine is published six times a year and targets the specialised retailers that sell motorised garden tools and who offer services and repairs for the machines. The focal themes of the publication are market overviews on alternating groups of appliances including market figures and trends, reports on the trade and manufacturers as well as trade fair reports. We talked to Mr Brandt about his new position.

Innovative technologies and smart solutions for outdoor lighting, lawn care and irrigation will once again in 2018 be the focus of the IVG Power Place AKkku and the Smart Gardening World at spoga+gafa. Due to the huge success last year, the presentation area of the themed islands has indeed been expanded by around 50 percent. The company Gardena is also on board again this year. In the run-up to the trade fair we spoke with Heribert Wettels, Director Public Relations at Gardena (Husqvarna Group), about the development of the market and about his own garden.

Smart Gardening is more than simply installing an app

Whether for outdoor lighting, lawn care, the irrigation of garden plants, shading systems for the seating areas or checking the water values in the garden pond – Smart Gardening is currently one of the top themes in the green industry. This is why the special exhibition areas IVG Power Place Battery and Smart Gardening World – that celebrated their premieres last year – are being considerably expanded at the international garden fair spoga+gafa 2018.

Whether irrigation apps, networked lighting or the automatic control of the lawn mower – the digitalisation of the garden is continuing to forge ahead. The coming spoga+gafa is dedicating an own themed island to the segment for the first time ever in Hall 6, called Smart Gardening. The latest technology trends and innovations will be presented there live and in action.
