Oliver Mathys is an acknowledged market expert and networker of the green industry. He develops sales concepts for garden centres and DIY stores and supports them with the implementation thereof throughout the whole of Europe. We talked to him about his ideas for POS design in the summer and about what garden centres should definitely pay attention to during these months.

Konni van Delft was born in North Germany, has however been living in the Netherlands since the mid 1970s. The florist has been working as a freelance visual merchandiser since 1986. She advises garden centre in the Netherlands, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania and Italy. Sales presentations and cross-selling as well as employee training are her special areas in these sections.

The summer is gradually coming to a close… And the first Christmas items are already on sale in the retail outlets in mid-September. And it won’t be long before the corresponding design at the POS follows. In November at the latest the Christmas business is in full swing in the green industry. Even though this increasingly early Christmas hype tends to irritate many of the customers. We discussed the theme with Oliver Mathys. As a marketing and sales consultant, he develops sales concepts and supports companies with the implementation thereof.

The magazine “Mein schöner Garten” (My beautiful garden) has determined the top 500 garden centres and DIY stores with garden departments and published the results in its May edition. Over 8,800 customer opinions on 2,300 garden centres and DIY stores with garden departments in Germany were collected and evaluated for the purpose. In most of the federal states the owner-run establishments came off best. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the Mencke Garden Centre in Sprockhövel topped the ranks.
