Jungle Gym: Customizable Playground Systems for Gardens

The Dutch company Jungle Gym offers playgrounds for every private area and budget. The playsets can be combined to satisfy individual wishes.

Climbing, running, sliding: Haven’t we all collected some of the fondest memories of our childhood on playgrounds? Jungle Gym designs, manufactures and markets innovative playground equipment that stimulates children’s creativity, movement and coordination. Their range for private gardens includes sets in the style of boats, trains and hanging bridges including swings, climbing walls and slides; playtowers in different sizes, playhouses and extensive playparadises that leave no wish unfulfilled.

Next to the pre-designed playgrounds, Jungle Gym also offers modular elements that can be combined according to the individual wishes of the customers. Some examples for extra equipment are picnic tables, mini markets, etc. and connecting hanging bridges. Small accessories like rope ladders and fireman’s poles can be bought as well. The playhouses “Grow with me” are designed to start out small and as the children grow older place you can lift that same playhouse on a frame to create an XL playhouse with ladder and slide.

Jungle Gym emphasizes the safety of their playgrounds. Specially designed components like caps to cover the bolt heads, Bumper Pads™, handgrips and ground anchors are included wherever necessary. All of their products are tested, monitored by DEKRA (German Motor Vehicle Inspection Association) and have a GS certification.

Jungle Gym uses pressure treated pinewood for all of their playgrounds. Their materials are safe to touch for children, with rounded edges and corners, UV-resistant and weatherproof.

The Jungle Gym playgrounds were exhibited at the spoga+gafa 2014 in Cologne.

Hörby Bruk: Reliable Craftsmanship from Sweden

Hörby Bruck is the leading manufacturer of wheelbarrows and playground equipment in the Nordic countries.

Founded in 1920, Hörby Bruck has always emphasized a combination of Swedish craftsmanship and modern technology. They are continuously using high-end production technology to produce unique products of the highest quality.

Hörby Bruk is best known for the Ekeby wheelbarrow range. It includes classic wheelbarrows, deep and narrow mortar barrows for improved access and several models of plastic tray barrows for moving big volumes of light materials. Electric wheelbarrows are offered as well. Other transport equipment includes special trolleys like the fire wood trolley.

For their playground equipment they have two main requirements: it has to be fun to use many times and it has to be safe. When Hörby Bruk designs a swing it is therefore done with serious consideration and with all the knowledge they have gathered from decades of experience. Their reasoning is that if you create play equipment with high quality and safety, you also create enjoyment for children that will last year after year. Their popular CanCan swings, which have their 50th anniversary this year, are the best example for this.

The main market for Hörby Bruk is within the Nordic countries, but more and more customers from Europe and the rest of the world are counting on the quality and reliability of their products. Visitors of the spoga+gafa 2014 can find Hörby Bruk in Hall 6.1, stand B028.

Stick-lets: Designed to Reconnect Children With Nature

When designer Christina Kazakia asked her friends about their best childhood memories, all of them told her stories about playing in the great outdoors. This inspired her to her thesis at the Rhode Island School of Design. The title of which is Natural Imagination: Reconnecting Urban Children with Nature. She intended to develop a device helping children to play constructively in nature, a tool to build forts. By observing kids playing with wood she discovered that often they would only need some sort of a simple, versatile connector to build something with the sticks.

Kazakia came up with the Stick-lets, silicone-made connectors with a minimalist design similar to bicycle chain elements, which can be used to connect branches and poles. Children can now creatively build forts, tents and shelters with natural materials and it looks as simple as playing with Tinker Toys. There are four different models for sale at the moment, each in a different bright color. They are sold in packs with ten or twenty pieces and as a starter pack with five Stick-lets in a bag.

Although they are clearly marketed towards children, the Stick-lets can also be used by hobby gardeners. They could help with many work situations in the garden, for example aligning ornamental plants or getting branches out of the way. Special models targeted towards adults are planned.

Making Gardening an Experience for Kids – With the Right Tools

In a time, in which children are more tempted to sit at home and play video games instead of spending their free time outside, parents sometimes need incentives to get their kids interested in what nature has to offer. Gardening tools and even growing equipment for our youngest are becoming more and more popular.

The German nursery garden BKN Strobel for example just launched a campaign named “Ich bin im Garten” (I’m in the Garden) where children can grow their own little plants in colorful pots. The attached labels have QR-Codes so they can look up information about their plants on a special website.

The German company Romberg, which specializes in plant growing and hobby gardening products offers a miniature greenhouse complete with seeds and substratum which can be kept inside the house. It comes together with an easy illustrated instructional book.

The Finnish tool producer Fiskars also has its own collection for kids. My First Fiskars “Boxi” consists of a shovel, a rake, a spade and a brush, each designed for small hands and with vibrant colors, for helping the adults playfully with the  duties in the garden.

Every child is gifted with a great sense of curiosity and openness towards natural things. It is important for them to develop a healthy relationship towards Mother Nature and that we teach them from an early age on what a fun activity it can be to cultivate plants and handling natural products outside. With the right tools, materials and appropriate instructions gardening is fun and an educational experience for our youngest.
