Skargaarden 2017: Furniture Design the Scandinavian Way

Simplicity, minimalism and functionality are the cornerstones of the nordic outdoor design by Skargaarden.

If you want to understand the concept behind Scandinavian design, the best way to find out is to wait until June and get on a road trip through the nordic landscape – this is, at least, what the people from Skargaarden recommend. Those, who already booked their summer holidays could instead have a look at the Skargaarden catalogue for 2017. Their furniture design reminds of the liberating solitude of nordic islands, lakes and rivers.

Here are three of Skargaarden’s featured product lines for the coming season.

REsö is a fishing village on the west coast of Sweden, a small and remote tourist attraction. Sitting on the veranda of the boarding house and enjoying the view of the archipelago was part of the inspiration for the RESö line. The dining chairs and tables made of thin steel were introduced for the first time in 2013. The RESö Bench is new for 2017.

„Less is more“ was the main principle of the designer Nils-Ole Zib. In 1986 he built the Nozib Sunlounger, a piece, which concentrates on the bare necessities. 28 years later, Skargaarden decided to expand on the original. The Nozib Cut is a lounge chair with a more conventional seating length and four legs instead of resting on all 24 slats.

With the Kerteminde Chair, Skargaarden wanted to capture the qualities of the typical Danish town: Nothing outlandish or boastful but still a great place to be.  It is minimalistic, robust and sturdy, which makes it fitting for cafés and restaurants.
