Seramis parent company Westland: Enters the German market

Seramis GmbH has belonged to the British company Westland Horticulture since 2014. An own collection is now going to be launched onto the market in the German-speaking zone in 2018 under the brand Westland. It was recently presented at spoga+gafa in Cologne.

Seramis is one of the most well-known German brands in the garden segment. The company from Rhineland-Palatinate that was founded in 1990 started off selling Seramis plant granules for indoor plants. The granules made of clay from Westerwald make an ideal soil surface for all potted plants and due to their excellent water storing characteristics, make it easier to care for the plants. Today, the Seramis collection also includes liquid fertilisers and soils as well as products based on the themes orchid care, plant fortifiers and lawn care.

In 2014, the brand Seramis was taken over from the Mars portfolio by the British company Westland Horticulture. The company, whose collection ranges from the sections potting soil, fertilisers, lawn care, seeds, plant protection and wild bird food, is one of the leading suppliers of garden products in Great Britain. The company has particularly been intensively researching the theme lawn care for decades and regularly develops new products for different target groups. By purchasing Seramis, Westland Horticulture is expanding its portfolio on the one hand by enhancing it with a popular and well-known brand of high credibility. On the other hand, the British company is gaining a simplified market access to the important German garden market through the take-over.

From 2018 onwards, Seramis GmbH will also be selling the products of the Westland brand on the German-speaking market. As well as the brand name Westland, a clear reference to the trusted consignee, Seramis, will be printed on the product packing for the consumers in Germany and Austria. The Westland lawn collection in the German-speaking zone will initially comprise of three lawn seed mixtures as well as two types of fertiliser. Westland will also be represented with three products on the shelves of liquid fertilisers from the beginning of 2018 onwards. Furthermore, a practical water indicator is to get impulse buyers acquainted with the brand.
