This indoor plant in a jar is self-sustainable and needs no maintenance.

Many producers of plant containers promise low maintenance due to their automated irrigation systems. The Pikaplant Jar, however, requires no watering at all once it is set up. The plant lives in an airtight biotope only by recycling water and air inside.

The Pikaplant Jar ships with the plant included. The Coffee arabica and Chamaedorea elegans specimen are bred in the Netherlands, hand-picked and hermetically sealed. According to Pikaplant, the terrarium-like conditions keep the plants alive for several years without any additional water. The plant-produced CO2 condensates on the glass walls and creates enough humidity. In order to thrive it needs a constant temperature and indirect light, at least two metres away from a window.

Pikaplant One and Tableau

Other than the Pikaplant Jar, Pikaplant offers two more products: Pikaplant One is a shelving system with ebb-and-flow irrigation technology. It automatically and wirelessly waters herbs and houseplants. According to Pikaplant, it works for an estimated 80% of indoor plants. It ships without plants included.

Tableau is a tray that waters three herbs or houseplants using ebb-and-flow irrigation technology. 700+ units have been pre-sold in 46 countries on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. The product can be pre-ordered, the first limited batch is scheduled to ship within this year.
