Nominated for unique youngstar 2014: Up by Philippe Jacot and Stefano Triaca

16 projects from 15 young design teams are nominated for the unique youngstar 2014 design award. The topic of this year’s contest is “outdoor living”.

All nominated design prototypes will be exhibited at the international garden trade fair spoga+gafa 2014 in Cologne, Germany from August 31st to September 2nd.

Up provides a novel opportunity to turn outdoor areas into green areas in a space saving and simple way. Plant pots of various sizes are suspended in the air via a modular system. The pots can be mounted and dismounted anytime as well as be adjusted in height, and also arranged, so that the plants have sufficient light and space. The plants are locked into place by an aluminum frame, which clamps onto a cable on the inside of each pot. The plastic vessels are locked into place onto the aluminum frame, each with a base plate for extra stability. They can be assembled onto all exterior walls and ceilings; it’s also possible to use them at and by interior windows. It’s irrigated by a water reservoir at the base of the pots. They’re simply watered from above, and a display shows how much water is left. Up creates a hanging garden, and in turn, more space.

Materials: plastic, wood, aluminum
Dimensions: 200 x 150 25 cm

The three jury winners and the winner of the public votes will be announced in the garden unique hall (10.2) on August 31st at 5 p.m. during the unique hour.
