Nominated for unique youngstar 2014: Beatspot by Claudia Dolbniak and Silvia Saure

16 projects from 15 young design teams are nominated for the unique youngstar 2014 design award. The topic of this year’s contest is “outdoor living”.

All nominated design prototypes will be exhibited at the international garden trade fair spoga+gafa 2014 in Cologne, Germany from August 31st to September 2nd.

BEATSPOT is an interactive, musical bench. It is inspired by the phenomenon that happens when you are looking for a free place to sit down but change your mind when you have to sit next to a stranger. For Claudia Dolbniak and Silvia Saure from Mainz, Germany the solution is music! Music connects people in public places and stimulates them in a positive way.

By sitting down on the BEATSPOT, a beat starts to play until you stand up again. Different seats have different sounds. When all seats are occupied the five individual beats find together and form a song. Beatspot is versatile, any audiofiles can be loaded onto it.

The time we spend with waiting is redefined by BEATSPOT. People and rhythms come and go, change places, you decide what music gets played. This bench creates music, new contacts and playful interaction.

Materials: fir wood and steel panel

The three jury winners and the winner of the public votes will be announced in the garden unique hall (10.2) on August 31st at 5 p.m. during the unique hour.
