The seating surface of the new armchair “Cala” from Kettal is made of knotted rope. The London designer duo Doshi Levien was inspired by a furniture classic for this design. With its sophisticated forms, the reinterpretation could itself become a classic.

Given today’s freedom of design, even furniture classics are being reinterpreted and artfully reshaped. The designer duo Doshi Levien oriented itself to the iconic rattan armchair “Emmanuelle” for the design of the new seating furniture “Cala” from Kettal. The reinterpretation with an unusually high backrest has a strong spatial presence. The transparent, light surfaces of the open rope weave form a mesh-like window that lends the furniture its pronounced aesthetic.

The armchair comes with two types of teakwood legs or with an aluminium base. A variety of rope colours and cushion materials, as well as a large selection of metal coatings are available for “Cala”. There is thus a wide range of options for matching the design’s character to the respective environment.
