“Good mix”: the landscape architect Brigitte Röde on the practical day at spoga+gafa

On 5 September, the Ulmer Verlag (publishing house) invites to a practical day at spoga+gafa 2016. The specialist seminar for planning and building with wood, glass and natural stone will be hosted by the renowned landscape architect Brigitte Röde. A discussion on the trade fair offering and the changed requirements for garden design.

Mrs Röde, have the demands for the design of gardens and outdoor areas changed in past years? And if so, what does that mean for your work?
Röde: Yes, our customers want to become more involved with working in the garden again themselves. Regardless of whether this means caring for a steep hanging garden or whether a family wants to plants vegetables in its own garden. The kitchen garden is once again a popular element of our planning. This means that we coordinate the outdoor space even more individually with the needs of customers, but also have to advise them all the more intensively. Our customers are enthusiastic when they can carry out work in the garden themselves and later harvest vegetables and fruit!

The information day for landscape architects at spoge+gafa is this year being staged under the title “Wood, glass, natural stone – practical garden day for planners and companies”. What can viewers expect from the lecture programme?
Röde: Like always, it is a good mix of design examples of beautiful gardens (this year the landscape architect Klein from Weber Klein Maas, Düsseldorf) and themes involving material usage. Everything is presented with a practical orientation by experienced experts and there is always time for questions.

As a landscape architect, how do you evaluate the offering and programme of the international garden fair spoga+gafa?
Röde: Especially the section “garden unique” with outdoor living offerings and the section “garden living” with garden furnishings and garden technology, furniture and garden houses are always good sources of inspiration and provide the opportunity to try things out, take a seat and establish contacts.
