When it starts getting cooler and greyer outside, it is worth taking a look at the coming outdoor season – because the summer of 2018 promises to be bright. At the last spoga+gafa, we were given a colourful foretaste of garden furniture and accessories featuring strong colours.

The warm days in October have got us in the mood for summer again – and next year it will evidently be glowing out in many colours. A visit to the last spoga+gafa made the trend towards bright shades very apparent. As a contrast to the prevailing grey shades of outdoor furniture such as chairs and sofas, the trend is towards fresh colours. The exhibitors of the international garden fair not only showed their colours when it came down to textiles and accessories: Cushions, tea lights, glasses, but also sunbeds and furniture for the balcony shone out in pink, azure blue or grass green.

At trade fairs and in interiors over the past few years, we’ve seen many achromatic, predominantly grey shades, which is something that will change slightly in the future,” the colour expert, Dr. Hildegard Kalthegener, stated. What begins in the apartment, carries on in the outdoor living-room. The still most popular outdoor colour grey is going to be pepped up by dashes of colour in the coming spring. In addition to muted or pastel shades, bright colourful shades are increasingly being implemented. Red, yellow and orange shades are used in contrast with dark petrol and bright mint. For more and more people the colour is becoming increasingly more important when selecting outdoor furniture.

“You can definitely say that colours make a difference and that the changes are occurring faster now than in the past,” said Brian Djernes, CEO of the Danish designer label, Cane-line. “Generally, the colours for outdoor furniture today are much stronger than before.” Furniture such as garden chairs, sunbeds or tables are becoming more and more frequently colourful. Sunshades are becoming eye-catchers on the terrace or in the garden thanks to their strong colours. Newly developed textiles that withstand adverse weather conditions more readily or the upholstery and cushions for seating furniture are setting colourful accents here. Courageous colours are also being observed when it comes down to plant pots or garden tools.

The wider spectrum of colours for outdoors is primarily satisfying the desire for original design. The coming summer is going to be even more beautiful thanks to furniture or accessories in one’s personal favourite colours.
