Floral highlights: The Chelsea Flower Show 2016 in London

The biggest flower show in the world is once again presenting highlights of English garden culture from 24 to 28 May: this year, among other things, green triumphal arches for the 90th birthday of the Queen and a tunnel of blooming roses.

The Chelsea Flower Show is visited annually by up to 157,000 garden lovers. For these, the 4.5 hectare exhibition grounds at the London Royal Hospital will once again offer a number of floral highlights in 2016. Areas of focus of this year’s garden design are ferns, box hedges, oaks, roses, poppies and other flowers like iris and lavender.

Besides the extraordinary and colourful gardens, there are also several floral installations to be seen. A “Rose Tunnel” will be designed by the variously decorated florist Joseph Massie and shaped from more than 5,000 blooming roses. Green gateway arches decorated with blossoms will also ornament the “Bull Ring” and “London Gate” entrances in honour of the 90th birthday of the Queen. Both gateway arches will be arranged by the designer Shane Connolly, who was already responsible for the floral decorations at the wedding of Prince William and Duchess Kate.
