„European Urban Green Congress” in Hamburg: Urban Green as Motor for Sustainable Development

Urban green offers a large potential when it comes to reducing the effects of climate change and coping with the negative side effects of urbanization and globalization. Urban green gives an important contribution to solving key future questions and challenges.

How large and tangible this contribution can be is demonstrated by the European Landscape Contractors Association (ELCA) at the „European Urban Green Congress” on May 30th in Hamburg. Representatives of the member associations and of international politics, commerce and society and many experts will share elaborate discussions. Above all it is about „Strategies for the green city of the future” and how to develop them.

The focus will be on practical examples for sustainable urban development. Representatives of Lyon, Zurich, Vienna and Hamburg present solutions and concepts. Central point of the event is a panel discussion with international representatives from politics, urban planning and environmental protection on „Green Cities as the Motor for Growth and Prosperity”.

Apart from ELCA President Emmanuel Mony the discussion will also be attended by the renowned architect Ricky Burdett (GB), Professor for Architecture at the London School of Economics (LSE) and Principal Design Advisor of the Olympic Games 2012 in London, as well as by Russell Galt (SA), Programme Manager of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), Olaf Tschimpke, Secretary of NABU Deutschland (= Environmental Protection Association Germany), Michael Sachs, State Councilor for Urban Development of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg as well as Henk Mulder, Deputy Mayor of Almere (NL).
