Dutch Design for Olympia

The Olympic Games in London are just around the corner. Various firms have already gained major success in making the event possible. In conjunction with LDA Design London, Hargreaves Associates and Arup, the company Streetlife has made an important contribution to the Olympic Parklands London 2012. Visitors are able to sit down on the special benches designed by Streetlife.

The Olympic Wave Benches have been specially designed for the Olympic Games 2012. Dozens of long configurations, more than 10 metres in length, have been placed along the Water Works in Stratford. The spacious and slightly curved benches ensure a light-hearted and elegant element within the Parklands blueprint. The design displays a modern and natural character, in line with the English garden tradition and the gentle slopes in the English landscape.

At the same time, Streetlife has also delivered the architectonic Long&Lean and Rough&Ready benches around the stadiums, as well as hundreds of WoodTop systems to create seating along the stairs in the Park.

Peter Krouwel, designer and director of Streetlife, is proud of his team: ‘You don’t simply get appointed as a supplier to the Olympic Games in London. We have been selected on the basis of quality and expertise. It is an honor to prove your skills on this global Olympic platform.’

Streetlife designs and supplies street furniture, tree products, bridges and decks. The company, founded by Peter Krouwel in 1997, now has branches in Leiden, The Netherlands, and Malmo, Sweden. Streetlife has an in-house design and engineering team that delivers sustainable building elements for landscape or urban layout plans. More than half of the projects are currently realized outside the Netherlands. The beginning of this year witnessed the launch of the new 2012-2013 Collection: 276 product pages in one book. The Collection has attracted much international interest partly as a consequence of the basic design principles of ‘sustainability and longevity’.
