German brand ames have launched the new furniture line “Caribe” made from traditional woven plastic. The design by Sebastian Herkner combines different-coloured plastic strands with a tubular-steel and steel-wire frame. The furniture is produced on the Caribbean coast.

Suitable for outdoor use, the new furniture line “Caribe” includes a chair, a lounge chair, a large side table in a high and a low version and a woven table. The furniture is produced in Santa Marta on the Caribbean coast. Using a traditional weaving technique, these types of chairs are typical of Colombia’s Caribbean coastal region. In this part of the country, the popular “momposino” weaving craft is taught in schools.

The CARIBE furniture line is part of the “ames sala by sebastian herkner” collection, first presented at imm cologne 2016. The home collection also includes throws and woollen rugs, cushions with macramé ornaments, ceramics made from black terracotta, felt bowls and baskets made from esparto grass.
