spoga+gafa 2018 invites garden planners and entrepreneurs to Cologne for a half-day Practical Garden Day. On 3 September, five high quality speakers will hold lectures on current industry themes ranging from designing with shrubs and trees to construction planning law in private gardens.

The market for the planning of private gardens is booming. An increasing number of people are seeking professional support when designing their own outdoor areas. Those who want to be successful over the long term must listen to their customers individually and provide a high quality comprehensive offering. Green specialist knowledge alone isn’t enough anymore. Planners and executing companies must also know their way around planning and building laws.

Relevant questions of routine planning

The five speakers of the Practical Garden Day at spoga+gafa explain important basics and convey special knowledge from the realm of practice. Hosted by the Cologne landscape architect Brigitte Röde, relevant questions of routine planning are discussed in the garden unique forum (Hall 10.2, stand R50). The garden planner Alexander Koch starts with a work lecture – including about his winning project for this year’s “Gardens of the Year” competition. The subsequent lectures involve construction planning law in the private garden (Astrid Kupschke), the planning of wall-floor connections (Wolf D. Meyer-Ricks), as well as the prevention of pests and plant diseases (Klaus Körber).

Tips for the design of outdoor kitchens

Listeners then change event locations at 4:00 p.m.. Michael Kupka from kupkagarten of Waiblingen, one of the most experienced planners of outdoor kitchens in Germany, will present examples from his professional practice in the Outdoor Kitchen World in hall 8 and explain the most important aspects of materials, planning and building. As of 5:30 p.m., the trade fair invites to a get-together.

Training measures from AKNW

Partners of the Practical Garden Day are the Ulmer Verlag (publishing house), as well as the Federation of German Landscape Architects (bdla). The Chamber of Architects in North Rhine-Westphalia recognises the lectures as continuing training measures.
